Alexandra Wilson discovered a passion for cooperatives in 1974, when she led her neighbours in a successful fight to create the Bain Apartments Cooperative, putting a stop to the landlord’s plans to evict 260 low-income households. This involvement as a teenager in saving her own home led to a career in the development, management and provision of association services to housing cooperatives.

Throughout the year, the ICA will feature 25 members of the cooperative movement who are under the age of 25, to tell the world what the cooperative identity means to them – in the form of a short video story, photos and other digital media. The stories will use real-life examples to inspire and vividly show the cooperative difference.

COVID-19 Update
The International Cooperative Alliance is keeping a close eye on the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Currently, we are going ahead with planning for the conference, but are discussing options in the case of further travel restrictions and limitations. Please check regularly our social media for updates.

World Cooperative Congresses are historical moments for the cooperative movement. The year 2020 marks both the 125th anniversary of the ICA, which was founded in 1895 at its first Congress in London, and the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the ICA Statement on the Cooperative Identity.
