Parallel Session 4.4: With Affordable Housing and Energy

Guido Schwarzendahl has been Managing Director of Bauverein, Halle & Leuna in Halle, Germany since 2001. After merging with another housing cooperative, it is now one of Germany’s largest with over 7,500 flats in four cities. Schwarzendahl oversaw the installation of a central energy system in a historic neighbourhood in Halle, Germany that is providing sustainable heat and power to over 1,000 dwellings. 

He has served as a board member of Co-operative Housing International (CHI) since 2013 and is currently vice-president. Guido has a Master’s Degree in Geography, Political Sciences and Sociology and a Business Administrator for Housing. His primary interest, focus and drive has always been social housing and specifically cooperative housing.
