What is a hybrid event?

A hybrid event takes place in a physical location, and is also broadcast or streamed via an interactive online platform. Organizing the World Cooperative Congress as a hybrid event will allow us to continue our cooperative connections, share our stories on our commitment to the communities we serve, and expand our reach.

Why will there be a hybrid event?

There will be a hybrid event to make sure anyone who wants to attend Congress can do so. The COVID-19 pandemic taught us that despite needing to stay distanced to be safe, we can remain engaged with our members through creative and innovative communications channels. To do this, we continue to provide the cooperative movement with the platforms to network with each other, but also seek ways to expand our reach.

What is the difference between live/in person sessions in Seoul and online sessions?

  • Live/in person sessions will take place at the Walkerhill Convention Center, with live presenters/panelists, and a live audience. During these sessions, some panellists may also join online.
  • Online sessions will be conducted exclusively online, with presenters and panelists presenting to the audience from their home country.

All sessions will be recorded and can be accessed on the Congress platform.

What is the difference between speakers, facilitators, rapporteurs and panelists?

  • Speakers will be delivering speeches to the audience during the Plenary Sessions.
  • Panellists are experts in the areas they will be speaking and will be part of the group discussions at each plenary and parallel session.
  • Facilitators will facilitate conversations and discussions between panellists in all of the sessions.
  • Rapporteurs will serve as session “reporters” at the end of each day and will serve on panels to provide the audience highlights and key findings from that day’s parallel sessions.

Will translation/interpretation be offered during Congress?

Yes, all sessions will have audio interpretation in English, Spanish, French and Korean.

What would happen if the in-person component of Congress has to be cancelled due to COVID-19?

In the event that Congress cannot be held in person, due to events beyond the control of the congress organisers (force majeure) or due to events which are not attributable to wrongful intent or gross negligence of the Congress organisers, the Congress organisers cannot be held liable by delegates for any damages, costs, or losses incurred, such as transportation costs, accommodation costs, costs for additional orders, financial losses, etc.

The same will apply if participants must give up travelling because they have not received their visa or because of the evolution of the pandemic in their country. In such cases an automatic conversion to online participation will be applied.
